Extending the functionality of your WP website is very easy – you just need to install plugins. The market is full of different plugins, that can add any needed function to your website. But don’t be so happy, installing numbers of them to your page. The sad truth is plugins slow down your website, and the more plugins you install, the slower your site will work. Also, plugins can come into collision and stop working together. When you download plugins, made by different vendors, they don’t always collaborate with each other and you might lose functionality instead of obtaining it. That’s why sometimes you need to spend time and money on customization tuning each plugin in order to fit your website.

The weak point of such themes emerges when you download the theme and find out that it does not suit your brand identity as it supposed to do. Moreover, when you insert your media files, the template doesn’t look so “premium” and stylish as it used to at the preview (designers of premium themes spend hours to find the pictures from photobanks that match each other perfectly). And later, when you decide to customize the bought theme, you have to hire a developer, even if you tried to avoid it in the very beginning. If the chosen theme contains too many functions, that you will not use, be prepared to get the extremely slow website.

offers a great variety of website’s designs called Themes. Theme is a front end styling of your website, which is installed into your WordPress account. It contains color scheme, widget locations, page templates(layouts), fonts and other stylistic details. Generally, free themes propose simple design and limited functionality and premium themes include more features together with stylish design.

Originally, WordPress was built like a platform for blogging. In the very beginning, when you install WordPress, the basic function available to you are adding new posts, sharing them via social media and creating the static pages. This native functionality is enough for blogs or simple company websites. But if you want to develop the custom and functional you have to forget about using WordPress for a business website.

WordPress is known to be the most frequently used CMS on the web. Nowadays, 28.5% of websites are built on this platform. But why is it so popular and is WordPress good?

Black Hat SEO & Shadow Domains To Avoid

Shadow Domains is one of the black hat methodologies as mentioned in my previous blog. With black hat tactics, client was running the risk of being penalized by Search Engines or all web rankings gone when they changed the SEO service suppliers – in exchange of the short term benefits of seeing web rankings boost overnight with a literally lower price.

Search engine ranking is a numbers game, and Webmasters can create hundreds of shadow domain sites, all hosted separately that flood the search engines with thousands of phantom pages. This method is especially popular in highly competitive fields such as finance, pharmaceutical drugs, gambling and adult content. See

There are programs that create shadow domains automatically, such as the very comprehensive shadowMaker from fantomaster.com GmbH (www.fantomaster.com). ShadowMaker generates self-contained, independent websites for its customers with sophisticated scripts that differentiate people from spiders and redirect bona fide users. The scripts use a spider database that contains the spider’s IP address and attributes, and fantomaster.com updates the database several times daily.

The key to an effective shadow domain is the ability to redirect a human to the real Web page upon arriving on the phantom page, while letting the search engine spider scan the page.

A website set up for search engine spiders rather than humans. Shadow domains are indexed by the search engines just like all other sites on the Web, except the shadow domain is not for human visitors, and its content would look like gibberish. Pages are loaded with extra keywords that make the page look like top-notch content to the spider and help rank the page higher in the search results. Also called a “cloaked” site, the pages are known as “phantom pages.”

If you use an SEO plug-in, such as Yoast, you can add a to the ‘meta description’ section, and you can preview an example of how it will look in search engine results pages (SERPs):

The meta description is the short paragraph of text placed in the HTML of a webpage that describes its content. The meta description will then appear under your page’s URL in the search results. This is also known as a snippet.

As Kristine Schachinger described in our previous guide to meta tags back in 2012, meta tags are HTML elements that provide information about a webpage for search engines and website visitors.

“We have too many people,” he said, “too many contracts and too many approvals to be able to react and work effectively in a real-time world,” he said. “The work is moving closer to where the customers are, where the responses can be more rapid and connected.”

1. Agencies are slow. An executive from one of the world’s largest ad agencies told me that his company was too big – and consequently, too slow — to compete in the lightning-fast digital space.

SoDA describes this trend as “alarming” (and it is, if you work for an agency) but stops short of fully explaining why it’s happening. After interviewing several ad agency executives and marketing leaders in a diverse group of businesses — pharmaceutical, high-, manufacturing, retail, sports, and others — I’ve found a few common themes that could help explain what is going on.

But these companies aren’t getting rid of marketing – they’re just bringing it in-house. Mitch Joel, president of Mirum, recently has also noticed this movement of agency talent to the client side, calling it one of the most disruptive trends in the industry right now.

A new research report from the Society of Digital Agencies finds that in the past year there has been a dramatic spike in the number of companies who no longer work with outside marketing agencies — 27 percent, up from 13 percent in the previous year. This continues a trend The Association of National Advertisers first reported in 2013.

Traffic from Black Hat SEO is never last long. You might get traffic for the days, the weeks and even for the months but they are always of low quality and are not worthy to stand on the quality sites.

Quality content; Creating quality content is important because it shows the search engines that your site is unique and appropriate to display. Researching keywords that are both short and long tail and are relevant to your site is necessary to do as well. Be sure to include keywords naturally in headings, link anchor texts and page titles. Furthermore, it is important to add new relevant content regularly. The more content-rich your site is, the better as it will appear to be more valuable to the search engines, human visitors and webmasters who would most likely link to your site. Although creating quality content may be time consuming, it will be well worth it in the long run.

White hat SEO refers to the use of techniques and strategies that target a human audience opposed to a search engine. Techniques that are typically used in white hat SEO include using keywords, and keyword analysis, doing research, rewriting meta tags in order for them to be more relevant, backlinking, link building as well as writing content for human readers. Those who use white hat SEO expect to make a long-term investment on their website, as the results last a long time.

Black hat SEO refers to techniques and strategies used to get higher search rankings, and breaking search engine rules. Black hat SEO focuses on only search engines and not so much a human audience. Black hat SEO is typically used by those who are looking for a quick return on their site, rather than a long-term investment on their site. Some techniques used in black hat SEO include: keyword stuffing, link farming, hidden texts and links, and blog content spamming. Consequences of black hat SEO can possibly result in your site being banned from a search engine and de-indexed as a penalization for using unethical techniques.

Major difference between White Hat and Black Hat is that White hat is ethical and Black hat is unethical. These both are basically two different methodologies to implement . White hat includes working and using only original and unique content and data. It also includes avoiding spam links and spamming. Black hat includes using duplicate data and involves spamming. You can read more about it :- Black Hat SEO v/s White Hat SEO – What’s the Difference?

page documents more info on several meta tags that we do use. For example, we do sometimes use the “description” meta tag as the text for our search results snippets, as this screenshot shows:

A: About a decade ago, search engines judged pages only on the content of web pages, not any so-called “off-page” factors such as the links pointing to a web page. In those days, keyword meta tags quickly became an area where someone could stuff often-irrelevant keywords without typical visitors ever seeing those keywords. Because the keywords meta tag was so often abused, many years ago Google began disregarding the keywords meta tag.

, which could include the keywords meta tag. But that’s an enterprise search appliance that is completely separate from our main web search. Our web search (the well-known search at Google.com that hundreds of millions of people use each day) disregards keyword metatags completely. They simply don’t have any effect in our search ranking at present.

At least for Google’s web search results currently (September 2009), the answer is no. Google doesn’t use the “keywords” meta tag in our web search ranking. This video explains more, or see the questions below.

In the U.S., adidas has started working more collaboratively across their digital teams to share insights and get a deeper understanding of their customers. Chris Murphy, Head of Digital Experience, describes their approach:

In our recent survey of global marketing organizations, we learned that the priority for marketers is to better understand their customers. By offering tools that make it easy to collaborate and share insights, Google Marketing Platform helps achieve this customer-first approach to marketing.

Google Marketing Platform brings together DoubleClick Digital Marketing and the Google Analytics 360 Suite to help you plan, buy, measure and optimize digital media and customer experiences in one place. Google Marketing Platform helps you deliver more relevant and effective marketing, while ensuring that you respect your customers’ privacy and give them control over their data.

Of course, changes in technology have meant changes for digital marketers. There’s been an explosion of channels, formats and data. Consumers are also more aware of how they’re being marketed to and how their data is being used—and they want more control.

The online world was very different when DoubleClick debuted in 1996. Things we take for granted today, like texting emoji, sharing funny YouTube videos, or taking smartphone selfies were all years away.

Generally, it is a catch-all term that encompasses the leveraging of big data and technology including ad networks, ad exchanges, trading desks, demand-side platforms (DSPs), supply-side platforms (SSPs), exchange-based buying of ad inventory, real-time bidding (RTB), and ad networks to serve targeted and relevant experiences to consumers across channels. On the back end of things, algorithms filter ad impressions derived from consumer behavioral data, which allows advertisers to define budgets, goals, attribution, and optimize for reduced risk while increasing ROI with ease.

But programmatic has evolved to be much more complex than this. Once exclusive to search and display ads, programmatic now includes many more mediums, like video, and can be done across multiple channels (desktop and mobile).

It’s an important buzzword that many people know of and use. But let’s be honest, there’s a lot of confusion surrounding this term and few actually know what it means.

I’m sure you hear this word thrown around quite a bit. Programmatic Media Buying – it’s ‘the future of online advertising’ – a means to completely remove all manual processes in .

Matt Cutts was one of the first 100 employees at Google. He was one of the most well-known Googlers within the search marketing industry. He has spoken at many of our conferences and provided invaluable contributions to our industry and to Google. But it was time for him to move on and work on big government problems instead of working on problems at Google.

In mid-2016, he started working with the US Digital Service team, and he has enjoyed it so much, he decided to make it official. He is officially no longer on leave with Google. He is now the director of engineering of the USDS.

Matt Cutts first went on leave at Google in 2014 and decided to extend his leave shortly thereafter. Then in May 2015, he was replaced in his job by an unnamed Googler. After that, he confirmed he was still on leave with Google.

Matt Cutts, the former head of search quality at Google, has announced he officially resigned from Google as of December 31, 2016. He has decided to stay on with the US Digital Service and has been appointed the director of engineering for that governmental department.

Working for the government doesn’t pay as well as a big company in Silicon Valley. We don’t get any free lunches. Many days are incredibly frustrating. All I can tell you is that the work is deeply important and inspiring, and you have a chance to work on things that genuinely make peoples’ lives better. A friend who started working in this space several years ago told me “These last five years have been the hardest and worst and best and most rewarding I think I will ever have.”
